I jailbroke it. Of course. I need my iBlacklist, Apple. Aside from the new directory structure that I’ll be scouring over the next few days, there were a few things I like about the new software:
- The UI is snappier. Apps and screens respond faster with rare jitter.
- The ‘folder’ concept makes short work of getting to apps. Fewer touches = good.
- Geolocation appears to be faster.
- Photo storage is much compressed from the 3.x OS series.
A few things (there are more) that I don’t like:
- Can’t (by normal means) set the background of the non-lock screen.
- I’m not a fan of some of the new widgets, like the geolocation ‘arrow’ (which used to be more like a compass sans the arrow, since my device has no compass and the arrow within would be a tease).
- The universal email inbox. I use IMAP with MobileMe but send mail as a different user, which requires me to set up a separate email account in the Mail app that uses a different outgoing mail server. It results in duplication of messages so I only look at the account from which I send the mail. It’s not an iPhone problem, it’s a MobileMe problem, or lack of a “feature,” but annoying.
