In Our Hands Rescue wanted to send out a follow up for those of you who may have watched the show on Animal Planet last night.
We were disappointed that our message did not get out in the way we had hoped. After many many hours of filming the rescue efforts to save the 20+ dogs from Missouri and the countless interviews….
They did not air the full story. Benji was found under a bridge with 6 other dogs, All the dogs were saved from being gassed the most horrific inhumane form of euthanasia. They did not let us tell their story and why it is so important to put an end to the puppy mills using and abusing these wonderful dogs for breeding and profit only, Then dumping them like trash.
Instead many may have been led to believe the show had some part in the actual rescue. this is INCORRECT. In Our Hands Rescue spent three weeks planning, vetting, coordinating and financially sustaining this huge effort.
I would personally like to thank those who were overlooked and disregarded in this episode.
The Volunteers who arrived that day and helped unload the truck, clean up,feed and comfort those scared dogs.
The People who donated both financially and in kindly to the needs of dogs.
The transporters who came and helped bring them to foster.
The foster homes that waited anxiously for a pet they never had the chance to meet yet took in sight unseen.
DR. Peter Astarbi From Staten Island spent the whole day vetting the dogs upon arrival.
Patricia Tierney who with the help of her friend gathered a car load of doggie essentials and spent the whole day helping care for them.
Ruthann Holbert for allowing us to invade her home with a camera crew and 20+ volunteers.
Pat in Missouri who without you these dogs Never would have been known to us nor saved from the gas chambers. Making the vetting ,quarantine and transport possible.
We would like to thank the Under Dog to Wonder Dog show for all the work they did traing, grooming and finding Benji a great home , grooming several of the dogs as well as spending the day with us.
The many wonderful cross posters and message senders who got the word out.
and the many more who hide in the distance I have not forgotten your help.
This story was not supposed to be just about Benji but about a rescue that saves lives and what it really takes.
without the support of YOU we can not save the animals in the most need..
These dogs come scared confused and in need of care and love
The mission of IOHR has always been to save animals in the most need from no matter what zip code they are in.
We found that these dogs have a chance in NYC to find a home that will cherish them and help them flourish into wonderful family members all the dogs that were rescued found their “city legs” with patience time, dedication, proper training and most importantly love.
These are breeds of dogs that are sold in our local pet stores bred for that purpose only, we take the ones no body else wanted . The ones that are moms, Or that are not making a profit in MO. They stand no chance at a home no chance to even be alive. We bring them to NYC where they can find loving families and have a real home.
Although this is controversial and some may disagree we feel a life is a life all are worth saving. Until the mind set in other parts of the country can be changed and programs can be put in to place to do away with the Gas chambers and puppy millers this is the best IOHR can do.
They do not even have Spay/Neuter programs to help with the animal population instead they have gas chambers and shot guns.
Every dog in this program including Benji found a home within 3 weeks. Not without its bumps many needed training and additional minor vet care. Everyone has become a treasured part of someone family a devoted companion.
We have not forgotten about NYC dogs far from it .We continue to pull from our local ACC . For that reason we do not take any bully bred from out of state all out Pit mixes as well as cats come from NYC,
A lover of the bully breed IOHR encourages anyone looking to foster or adopt a Pitttie mix to contact us or your local animal control.
In Our Hands Rescue wants to make it VERY clear we received NO funding or donations from Animal Planet,Under Dog to Wonder Dog,
They did not help with vetting ,transport, food ,care Or money. The ONLY compensation we received was the adoption fee for Benji-the same adoption fee anyone who adopted one of these dogs paid.
We are moving forward with another Missouri rescue and want to save other dogs like Benji,
To do this we need the continued support from people like you. we simply can not save the countless Benjis without your continued support of our mission.
